Amrina Rosyada

Amrina is finishing up her BA degree in Anthropology and Religious Studies at Gadjah Mada University. She was one of 2018’s Women’s Essay Competition winners, with a paper entitled, “The Long and Winding Road: Japanese Army’s ‘Comfort Women’ and the Fail to Redress.” She looks forward to joining Northwestern’s Anthropology Department in 2019.

 

 

 

Ayu Yolandasari

Ayu did her BA in psychology in 2013 at the University of Indonesia. Her thesis was entitled, “A Comparison of Rape Myth Acceptance between Parents of Young Adulthood Daughters and Police in Women and Children Service Units in Jakarta and the Surrounding Areas.” Her MA is from the Women’s Studies program at Ewha Woman University (South Korea) focusing on: “(Un)Veiling Muslim Feminists in Jakarta, Indonesia: The Destabilization of Veil Symbolism through the Experience of the Former Tarbiyah's Women Activists Riau.” Ayu looks forward to joining Northwestern’s History Department.

 

 

Bambang Trihadmojo

Bambang got his BA in 2014 from the University Muhammadiyah Malang’s Psychology Department with a thesis entitled, “Reverse Culture Shock: Conflict of Values Among Returnees.” His MSc from the University of Lancaster focused on “Identifying Etic and Emic Factors Underlying Burning Behaviour in Indonesia.” At Northwestern, Bambang will join the Sociology Department where he intends to research swidden farmers not just as the agents setting fires but as the first casualties of this self-destructive behavior.

 

 

Eunike Setiadarma

Eunike graduated in 2013 from Parahyangan University with a thesis entitled, “The Influence of Turkey’s Accession to the EU on Turkey’s Foreign Policy: Zero Problems with Our Neighbors.” Her 2017 MA is from the University of Manchester was entitled “The Co-Production of Poverty Knowledge in Post-New Order Indonesia (1998-2014): Discourse, Interaction, and Power Relations.” Eunike will join Northwestern’s History department where she wants to concentrate her research on development discourses starting from 1945 forward

 

 

Febi Ramadhan

Febi graduated in 2017 the University of Indonesia’s Anthropology Department with a thesis entitled, “Violence is the Catharsis of Patriarchy!: The Genealogy of Resistance towards Violence against Women in Aliansi Laki‐Laki Baru’s Social Movement Practices.” He was one of this year’s History Essay Competition prize winners with a paper entitled, “Gender Diversity at Stake: On the Pervasiveness of Political Heteronormativity in Indonesia, 1966-1999.” Febi will join the Anthropology Department at Northwestern.

 

 

Atmaezer Simanjuntak

Ara earned his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at Gadjah Mada University in 2017 with a thesis entitled, “The Fall of Our Totem: Palm Oil Tree Plantationa and the Waning of Religiosity in West Kalimantan.” He then became a research and teaching assistant under the department’s chair. Ara will join Northwestern’s Anthropology department where he will focus on labor migration, conflict, and shifting cultural boundaries.
