2017 Arryman Fellows Announcement

The selection committee of Arryman Fellows has made an announcement for the winners of 2017 Arryman Fellows. They are Muhammad Ridha , Perdana Putri , Robie Kholillurrahman and Sofyan Ansori. Muhammad Ridha

Muhammad Ridha

Ridha earned his bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Indonesia. His thesis was, "Hegemonic Contestation of Batang’s Peasant Movement." Supported by an Australian Development Scholarship, he received his master’s from Murdoch University with a thesis entitled, "The Development of a Universal Social Security System in Indonesia." Ridha worked as a Program Coordinator at Konfederasi Pergerakan Rakyat Indonesia. He plans to study in the politics department at Northwestern University, where he will deepen his research on the political economy of welfare programs.

 

Perdana Putri

Perdana Putri

Perdana was awarded her bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, in the humanities from the University of Indonesia. Focusing on Russia, her thesis was entitled "The Dynamics of Avant-Garde Painting from 1890 to the 1920s." She was also active in the Progressive Student Union at the university. Since graduating, she has worked as a communication and publications officer at Asia Justice & Rights. Having grown up on a palm oil plantation in Sumatra, Perdana wants to analyze the palm oil sector from the plantation community’s perspective in the Kandis-Siak regency of Riau. She will be joining the sociology department at Northwestern.

 

Robie Kholillurrahman

Robie Kholillurrahman

Robie completed his bachelor's degree in international relations at the University of Indonesia in 2016 with a thesis entitled, "State and Mobile Investors Relation on Industrialization in Post New Order Indonesia (1998-2014)." Since graduating he has worked as a researcher at the Research Institute for Crisis and Alternative Development Strategy, and a research associate at the Directorate of Foreign Politics and International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of National Development Planning. At Northwestern, Robie will join the politics department where he will research a project entitled, "Two Lost Decades of Indonesian Industrialization since 1997."

 

Sofyan Ansori

Sofyan Ansori

Sofyan earned his bachelor’s degree in social anthropology at the University of Indonesia in 2009, where he graduated with the highest GPA in his class. He was awarded a "Future Leadership Scholarship" from PPM School of Management, where he received his master’s degree. Since completing his studies, he has worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Indonesia’s Institute for the Study of Economy and Society, and in the anthropology department. An experienced ethnographer, Sofyan will join Northwestern's anthropology department where he will research the sources of Central Kalimantan's peatland fires.
